Paul McGrath
Memorial Golf Tournament
"The Paul McGrath Memorial Fund was established in 1998 as a way for my family to give back to our local community in memory of my brother, Paul McGrath, who died on Christmas Day 1998. He was just 31 years old."
– Troy McGrath

About Paul

Paul was born on April 13, 1967 at Loring Air Force Base, Limestone, Maine. The McGrath family moved to Amesbury, Massachusetts when Paul was two years old and except for short periods of time, Paul spent all of his life in Amesbury. He attended Amesbury schools, from Kindergarten through High School.

Paul started Amesbury Youth Hockey at the instructional level at age 5. He was a little, freckled faced kid with the map of Ireland all over his face. He took to hockey like a fish to water and played for 15 years, from Mites through High School. Paul continued his love of hockey at North Country Community College in Lake Placid, New York. He was also an ardent Bruins fan and enjoyed going into the city for live games.

Paul's love of life and ability to live life to its fullest every minute of his brief time here will forever keep him in our hearts. We miss him terribly.

About the Fund

The Paul McGrath Memorial Fund was established to commemorate Paul McGrath, a long time Amesbury, Massachusetts resident who passed away on Christmas Day, 1998 at the young age of 31 from injuries sustained on a family skiing trip. When he died, we tried to help others by asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Amesbury Youth Hockey League. Those donations alone raised over $2,500 and the Paul McGrath Memorial Fund, a 501c(3) nonprofit organization, was founded.

In each of the previous Paul McGrath Memorial Golf Tournaments, we have attempted to raise significant funds and apply them where we can help to enrich the lives of our local youth. We have donated our proceeds to local youth sports organizations, and others who aim to help improve the lives of our youth, including:

  • The Haiti 180 Fund
  • Camp Kesem
  • Amesbury High School Sports Boosters
